Benefits of Cold Laser Therapy at Allied Physical Medicine
If you are suffering from pain and are hoping for a modern method of pain relief that will not irritate your skin, cold laser therapy may be just what you’ve been looking for. At Allied Physical Medicine, we have years of experience helping patients with this form of treatment and we are looking forward to providing this service to you.
Cold laser therapy is not just for relieving pain. It can bring you a variety of benefits to improve your health and wellbeing.
What Is Cold Laser Therapy?
Cold laser therapy is also referred to as low-level laser therapy (LLLT). Basically, this treatment harnesses certain light wavelengths, typically at the 90mw and 830 nm level.
A specially trained doctor places a handheld cold laser device against your skin and activates the light for a period ranging from 30 seconds to a few minutes, depending on the customized treatment plan developed just for you.
The laser light can penetrate through your skin layers, from the dermis to the epidermis to the fat or subcutaneous tissues below (a distance of about 2 to 5 centimeters, usually).
Cold Laser Therapy Benefits
A number of health benefits are available to you when you undergo cold laser therapy, including:
- Reduce inflammation
- Improve the natural functioning of your immune system
- Lower your level of muscle tension
- Bring down swelling in muscles, ligaments, and tendons
- Boost the strength of your bones
Another positive aspect of cold laser therapy is that this process does not take much of your time. In fact, we often schedule patients to come in for a session lasting approximately 5 minutes. In the beginning, you may be scheduled to come in about twice a week or more, depending on the chiropractor’s treatment plan. As the benefits increase, you can reduce your treatment levels to come in less frequently, in consultation with the chiropractor.
